PERSONAL NOTE (GEE, CAN YOU DO THIS IN A BLOG?): I used to work for that loudmouthed SOB Arriola. He was insulting and obnoxious and didn't hesitate to fire groups of people if one vandalizing culprit didn't confess (such actions happened often during Christmas parties, for some reason - oh, yeah, the lack of bonuses could've been a reason). And yet he could charm the wallets off of many of his major clients, which took that business which his father started to amazing prosperity (it now seems to be a shell of its former self, whether from its new owners or the changing economy or a mix of the two).

And here's something else Joe supposedly did - there was a fellow who had worked a year or two at a menial job in the company, whose young son died suddenly just before Christmas. I heard that Joe not only paid for the entire funeral (and it wasn't a cheap funeral either, but it wasn't done for Joe to showoff; I didn't know about this until later - it still was one of the saddest things I've ever been to) but when the fellow decided to take his family back to his native country, Joe assured him that whenever he decided to return he would have a job open for him. And that's what happened a year or so later - he ultimately headed a high-tech department of the company. Don't know how many CEO's would do that.
