Ups and Downs

While the big-league team collapsed, the kids vie for the championship. And Dobbs is relieved, but Hanley's feeling worse.

Capuano and Volstad start tonight.

Game 3 Of 5

Marlins try to avoid losing the series. Mets have won 4 games in a row. Pelfrey and Vazquez on the mound.

Monday, August 29, 2011

Doable Double

Now that the Hopper has caught up on his movie-watching, it finally looks like a pretty day weather=wise for today's double-header. The Marlins have won 2 of their last 3 and have won 6 straight at Citi Field. First game has Anibal against Dickey; second game Ricky and Gee will pitch.

Waiting Day

Today's game was pre-postponed. So here's today's games in other parts of the continent...

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Double Down

And Irene said, "You planning on playing TODAY?? We'll see about that!", and the double-header is moved to Sept. 15. Wonder when Mondays' double-header will be moved to?

And somewhere else, games go on...

Friday, August 26, 2011

Half the Doubled Doubling

And now tomorrow's double-header is now a single-header, the originally scheduled night game rescheduled to when the next hurricane will hit. Somewhere in Canada Dewayne is giggling. And maybe tonight's game won't be a blowout.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Double the Doubling

The Fish are now scheduled to play a double-header on Saturday to avoid the destructive fury of Irene as it hits New York on Sunday, where the Marlins are supposed to play another double-header with the Mets on Monday. (Triple-header, anybody?)

Meanwhile here's tonight's games...

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Double the Desparation

Logan returns to play two in today's hurricane double-header (Dewayne gets DFA'd). Vazquez and Volstad face Bailey and Arroyo.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Back Home (Shudder)

D-Train returns as the Reds arrive to win a few games. Aftre 4 innings tonight it's 2-0 Reds.

UPDATE: Yay, Marlins take a 3-2 lead in the 5th.
UPDATE: Yuck. Leo lets the Marlins lose 8-6.

Monday, August 22, 2011

While the Marlins take some time off to figure out a way to start the rest of this season's games in the second inning, games are being played tonight...

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Getting Worserer

The question is becoming, not whether the Marlins can get out of their collapse, but whether they can avoid 100 losses this season. Anibal against Cory Luebke today.

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Oh Boy - Another Game Against The Padres

San Diego can slip ahead of the Fish in the Wild Card standings with a win tonight. Here's a slight bit of optimism - the Marlins are 6-3 this year in Saturday away games (although they lost their last one in Atlanta). More good news - Omar Infante's been activated (bye bye Ozzie). It's Hensley and Harang on the hill.

Getting Worser?

The Marlins with 37 games left in the season are 10 games under .500, and even Trader Jack now has a losing record. With Stanton suffering from toe-main, the Fish are putting out tonight what some are calling the worst lineup in baseball. Volstad and LeBlanc are the pitchers.

Former Fish Follies

Mike Jacobs gets tested, and booted.

One of Cameron Maybin's idols growing up plays for the Marlins now.

Craig Counsell garners a dubious record.

A friend of David Pinto's finds El Pulpo.

Got a Post Done Before Game Time

The Fish start a 4-gamer tonight, their last 4-gamer of the year now that the upcoming Mets series at the Citi will now be a 5-gamer. It's the Marlins' last West Coast series, and last series against a NL West team, this year. Luckily, enviroment-wise, they get to do it in San Diego. But oh-oh, the Marlins have lost 9 of their last 12 against the Padres. Florida has lost 11 of their last 13, but won 13 of their last 18 road games.

Tim Stauffer and Javier Vazquez deliver.

Game's On

The Marlins' last game in Denver this year is going on as I write this. Nolasco and Cook are hurling tonight.

Matt (alias:Wes) Helms' New Assignment

"Super-Secret Double-Agent Mole" Wes Helms is now infiltrating the Braves organization.

Fish Lead in 7th of Game 2 in Denver

Monday, August 15, 2011

It's the 2000th game of Jack's managing career tonight. Florida leads 2-1 after 2.5 innings.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

LoMo To Go To NO

Morrison gets demoted to the Zephyrs under suspicious but not entirely surprising circumstances (which now Beinfest confirms), and Twitter is barking loudly. And the Fish are also now Wes-less. Jose and Ozzie are the replacements.

2:10 PM: To perhaps accent the decision-making folly of the front office, Cody has already hit a 2-run homer for the Giants in today's game. In the middle of the 4th it's 3-1 Giants.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

The boring Marlins try to get another win against the Giants tonight. Javier Vazquez and some guy named Lincecum will be pitching. After the game two guys I have never heard of will be yelling into microphones.

Friday, August 12, 2011

Giants Arrive, War Of the Jinxes Possible?

Ever since the Giants series in S.F. the Marlins have been aimed straight towards the bottom of the standings. Combined with that is the Horror of playing in Sun Life Masoleum, where the last time the Marlins won a game the stock market was still a viable investment and Jerry Lewis was still on the Telethon. Maybe the Giants' series being played at the house Robbie built starting tonight may cause a cosmic collision of calamities that would cancel each of these black clouds out. Just seeing Cody again would be a sky-brightener.

Tonight Rick and Matt sling the orbs.

No Loss Tonight

First, last night's scores...

Then tonight's day-off scores...

Tuesday, August 09, 2011

Braves Game 2 at Sun Life Dungeon

Uggla goes for 30 in a row tonight. Beachy pitches near the beach.

Monday, August 08, 2011

Lowe, Hand Start Tonight

The Braves return, and tonight the Fish have no Hanley and no LoMo. Derek and Brad are tossing.

Sunday, August 07, 2011

Sweep-less Sunday

Hanley's still not in the line-up today to help the Marlins stop the sweep. Although this guy thinks they may still do it. Besides, it's Gaby's mom's birthday so there's some extra incentive.

Javy and Jaime take the mound. According to this article, "Garcia is 5-1 with a 1.54 ERA in 11 starts against NL East teams...(while) 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA in his last eight starts."

This Date in History

It's interesting to note that on the exact same spot where the new 38,000-seat Marlins ballpark is being hurried to completion, a baseball game was played 55 years ago that was viewed by a crowd so large that the new stadium probably would not have been able to contain it.

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Super Saturday With the Cards

Hanley's not in the line-up tonight, but Alfredo is. Nolasco and Carpenter propel the spheres.

Welcome Home Alfredo!

Amezaga returns tonight!

Friday, August 05, 2011

Friday's Game

With Infante out, Hanley thinks maybe he could come back tonight. It's Anibal against Westbrook tonight.

A Couple of News Bits

The city of Miami is having trouble finding tenants for the retail and restaurant spaces in the new stadium's garages.

And Ozzie would be honored to manage the Marlins.

Thursday, August 04, 2011

Saint Louis in the House

First, congrats to the GCL Marlins, who at this point have the highest winning percentage in pro baseball.

The Yadi-less Cardinals start a four-gamer tonight in Miami Gardens, where the rain has let up for now. Fearless prediction: There will be fewer spectators for tonight's game than for last night's exhibition 'futbol' match at the same venue.

Starting will be Kyle and Clay.

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

Rainout Edition

The Fish and Mets rain out tonight. Time for make-up day bingo. This guy thinks they'll probably play a 5-game series at the end of the month. My choice would be September 8, a travel day for both teams coming from Miami where they will just finish a 3-game series here (on the 9th the Mets stay at home to play the Cubs while the Fish travel just down the street to Pittsburgh).

Not to mention the Marlins now have to come back to start a home series against the Cards with the threat of a tropical storm this weekend. (Damn, I mentioned it.)

Marlins-Mets Game 2

Monday, August 01, 2011

Fish and Mets Fight

7:29PM: After 2 innings Fla. leads 1-0.
7:59PM: 2-0 after 2.5.
8:23PM: 3-0 after 3-and-a-half.
8:55PM: After 5 innings it's 3-1.
9:58PM: Duda owns Leo, hits a 2-run homer in 9th to tie game.
10:15PM: Stanton grand-slams it; Fish lead 7-3 in the 10th.
10:26PM: And that's the final score.
