Forget 'Contraction' Talk

'A New York Daily News report last week suggested Major League Baseball might eliminate the Marlins and Oakland A's if they do not get new stadiums. But MLB president Bob DuPuy said, via e-mail: "There is no discussion of contraction among either the commissioner or clubs."

'And (sports economics professor Andrew) Zimbalist said contraction is not viable because "it exposes baseball legally. They would face antitrust suits, and baseball doesn't want to face that expense."' (Flcourier.com)
