Waiting Day

Today's game was pre-postponed. So here's today's games in other parts of the continent...

Double Down

And Irene said, "You planning on playing TODAY?? We'll see about that!", and the double-header is moved to Sept. 15. Wonder when Mondays' double-header will be moved to?

And somewhere else, games go on...

Half the Doubled Doubling

And now tomorrow's double-header is now a single-header, the originally scheduled night game rescheduled to when the next hurricane will hit. Somewhere in Canada Dewayne is giggling. And maybe tonight's game won't be a blowout.

Double the Doubling

The Fish are now scheduled to play a double-header on Saturday to avoid the destructive fury of Irene as it hits New York on Sunday, where the Marlins are supposed to play another double-header with the Mets on Monday. (Triple-header, anybody?)

Meanwhile here's tonight's games...

Back Home (Shudder)

D-Train returns as the Reds arrive to win a few games. Aftre 4 innings tonight it's 2-0 Reds.

UPDATE: Yay, Marlins take a 3-2 lead in the 5th.
UPDATE: Yuck. Leo lets the Marlins lose 8-6.

Getting Worserer

The question is becoming, not whether the Marlins can get out of their collapse, but whether they can avoid 100 losses this season. Anibal against Cory Luebke today.

Got a Post Done Before Game Time

The Fish start a 4-gamer tonight, their last 4-gamer of the year now that the upcoming Mets series at the Citi will now be a 5-gamer. It's the Marlins' last West Coast series, and last series against a NL West team, this year. Luckily, enviroment-wise, they get to do it in San Diego. But oh-oh, the Marlins have lost 9 of their last 12 against the Padres. Florida has lost 11 of their last 13, but won 13 of their last 18 road games.

Tim Stauffer and Javier Vazquez deliver.

LoMo To Go To NO

Morrison gets demoted to the Zephyrs under suspicious but not entirely surprising circumstances (which now Beinfest confirms), and Twitter is barking loudly. And the Fish are also now Wes-less. Jose and Ozzie are the replacements.

2:10 PM: To perhaps accent the decision-making folly of the front office, Cody has already hit a 2-run homer for the Giants in today's game. In the middle of the 4th it's 3-1 Giants.

Giants Arrive, War Of the Jinxes Possible?

Ever since the Giants series in S.F. the Marlins have been aimed straight towards the bottom of the standings. Combined with that is the Horror of playing in Sun Life Masoleum, where the last time the Marlins won a game the stock market was still a viable investment and Jerry Lewis was still on the Telethon. Maybe the Giants' series being played at the house Robbie built starting tonight may cause a cosmic collision of calamities that would cancel each of these black clouds out. Just seeing Cody again would be a sky-brightener.

Tonight Rick and Matt sling the orbs.

Sweep-less Sunday

Hanley's still not in the line-up today to help the Marlins stop the sweep. Although this guy thinks they may still do it. Besides, it's Gaby's mom's birthday so there's some extra incentive.

Javy and Jaime take the mound. According to this article, "Garcia is 5-1 with a 1.54 ERA in 11 starts against NL East teams...(while)...Vazquez...is 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA in his last eight starts."

This Date in History

It's interesting to note that on the exact same spot where the new 38,000-seat Marlins ballpark is being hurried to completion, a baseball game was played 55 years ago that was viewed by a crowd so large that the new stadium probably would not have been able to contain it.

Saint Louis in the House

First, congrats to the GCL Marlins, who at this point have the highest winning percentage in pro baseball.

The Yadi-less Cardinals start a four-gamer tonight in Miami Gardens, where the rain has let up for now. Fearless prediction: There will be fewer spectators for tonight's game than for last night's exhibition 'futbol' match at the same venue.

Starting will be Kyle and Clay.

Rainout Edition

The Fish and Mets rain out tonight. Time for make-up day bingo. This guy thinks they'll probably play a 5-game series at the end of the month. My choice would be September 8, a travel day for both teams coming from Miami where they will just finish a 3-game series here (on the 9th the Mets stay at home to play the Cubs while the Fish travel just down the street to Pittsburgh).

Not to mention the Marlins now have to come back to start a home series against the Cards with the threat of a tropical storm this weekend. (Damn, I mentioned it.)

Fish and Mets Fight

7:29PM: After 2 innings Fla. leads 1-0.
7:59PM: 2-0 after 2.5.
8:23PM: 3-0 after 3-and-a-half.
8:55PM: After 5 innings it's 3-1.
9:58PM: Duda owns Leo, hits a 2-run homer in 9th to tie game.
10:15PM: Stanton grand-slams it; Fish lead 7-3 in the 10th.
10:26PM: And that's the final score.
