100-Game Stat Look
(FIXED SOME THINGS) Now that the 100-game mark has passed, I'm looking at Baseball Reference 2011 NL stats to see in which categories the Fish stand out.
According to them, the Marlins are middle-of-the-pack in many of their team pitching and batting stats. Here are some of the Marlins team stats that are closer to being either best or worst - the Marlins are...
...5th worst in the NL in team batting average (.245; the Padres are last at .233, the Cards are first at .268)
...4th in stealing the fewest bases (57; Cubs have fewest with 35, most is San Diego with 106).
...5th highest in striking out (745; worst are the Padres with 835, best are Cards with 602)
...4th in the league in both sacrifice bunts and sacrifice flies (San Diego is last in sacrfice bunts but 3rd in th NL in sacrifice flies)
...next to last in the league in pitches hitting batters (23; the Rockies are last with 22).
...5th in the league in walks allowed (the Cubs are 37 walks ahead of the #2 team).
...tops in the NL in walking batters intentionally (43; the Brewers are last with 12).
...3rd-least in the league in being walked intentionally (18; worst is Cubs with 13, most is Dodgers with 38).
...5th in the league in runs allowed (440, tied with Arizona, and 62 behind the leader the Cubs).
...tied for next to last with Houston in wild pitches thrown (22; the Phils are last at 12, the Brewers are first with 43).
...2nd in batters faced (3831; Cubs first with 3915, Phils last at 3668).
...6th in striking batters out (751; Giants are first at 828, Pirates last at 589)
...2nd in the NL in balks (7; Reds are first with 10, Cards last with 0).
...5th worst in walking batters per 9 innings (3.3; Cubs worst with 3.9, Phils best with 2.5)

Sunday Finale in Chicago
The Hawk and Hatcher have one more day to bask a bit, as the Marlins not only go for this series win, but also to take the lead all-time against the Cubs and at Wrigley Field. It's Chris Volstad and Randy Wells on the mound today.

Fish Stuff
Jack should be on the CBS Evening News tonight.
The Marlins' TV ratings are down.
And the Fish are closing the upper deck to make the few paying fans look less few.
D-Train returns to the majors.
There's rumors about whether the Marlins will trade Ricky/Anibal or not.
Who's spurring the recent surge? Is it Hanley? Or Emilio? Or The pitching?
Jhan pitched in the Futures game.
And tonight Gaby and his family will be at the All-Star game.

Marlins Making Moves
Joe Capozzi tweets that the Marlins got "Mike Cameron & cash from Red Sox in exchange for PTBNL or cash". (Cameron's hitting .149 so far this year).
In more trade news the Fish acquire Cesar Valdez from the Pirates for another PTBNL or cash.
Tonight it's sore-handed Hamels vs. Chris Volstad.

Happy Independance Day
It's an early 6:10 start for the Fish and the Phils on the Fourth. There'll be fireworks, flags, posters and the armed services. The Marlins have won 4 of their last five, and won their last 2 series, but they're 7-21 in their last 28 games against the Phillies. Ricky Nolasco and Vance Worley will be tossing the pill.

Reboot
I can think of one team that more than likely wanted to stay in the SanFran Bay area and just keep winning series. But to Arlington the Marlins had to go, and suffer last night's thrashing. Now Joser Lopez is gone, and Bryan Petersen takes his place. Brad Hand returns to start tonight; Texas starts Derek Holland.
