More Schedule Observations

---The 2013 Marlins play their longest stretch without a day off from
September 6th through the 25th. Their second longest breakless
stretch happens from July 19 to August 4.

---The Marlins this year finish up with the West Coast teams
relatively quickly - their last scheduled game against a team on the
West Coast is against San Francisco on June 23.

---The Fish finish with Cincinatti even faster - their last game
against the Reds this year is on May 16.

---On the other hand, 126 days separate the Marlins first meeting with
the Cubs (a Miami series ending April 28) and their second series (in
Chicago starting on September 2). Atlanta's two meetings with the
Cubs are separated by an even longer period of time - their first
series ends April 7, their second series starts September 20.

Schedule Observation

The different thing in this year's MLB schedules is the reshuffling of
inter-league play, from specific times of the year to scattered
instances throughout the entire season.

In the NL East inter-league games this year are to be found as early
as April 5-7 (PHI vs. KC) and as late as the last series of the season
(MIA vs. DET).

But there's still one time of the year when all teams play
inter-league. And that's that mystic, probably numerologistic time of
the year, on the last week in May, which has for the last several
seasons played host to two straight two-game series, this year being
no exception.

Except that this year those four games are the difference in the
schedules. In the NL East for the rest of this year, all five teams
will be playing inter-league games against Minnesota, the White Sox,
Cleveland, Kansas City and Detroit. But on May 27-31, each team will
be playing two home and two away games against their supposed 'natural
rivals', AL teams that the rest of the NL East aren't scheduled to
play.

These match-ups are MIA and TB, NYM and NYY, WAS and BAL, PHI and BOS
(uh, okay), and ATL and TOR (huh?).

The FoxSportsFlorida Marlins 2013 broadcast schedule has been
released. They will be showing 150 games this year, broadcasting in
high definition and low expectations.

Of the games they won't be showing, 3 will be Fox Games of the Week
and 1 game may conflict with the exclusivity of another Fox Game of
the Week. Two games will be broadcast by the Rays on SunSports. Two
games could also be picked up on WGN America, but their schedule has
not been announced yet. So at this point here are the games that
probably won't be on basic cable in South Florida....

Park Events

In an effort to get next season off to a more spiritually favorable start, tickets for the April visit by Joel Osteen to Marlins Park go on sale today (I'm guessing that's the best Jeffrey can do; the Pope is probably a Padres fan).

Tickets for the 'friendly' soccer match between Venezuela and Nigeria are on sale too. This is being promoted as the park's "very first non-baseball sporting event" - I bet a few of you have a problem with that statement, thinking some of the performances the Fish put on this year may not be considered 'baseball' in the pure sense of the term. Maybe it'll be fun just to see if there's a possible resurrection of the dreaded vuvuzuelas for this match, and whether their dulcet tones will shatter the picture-windows in left field.

The Championship Series start tonight in the AL with Detroit in the Bronx.

Speaking of the stadium, I got an e-mail from the Marlins stating that Joel Osteen will be appearing there in April, coincidentally during the first month of next season.

Another full day of baseball - four playoff games are scheduled today. Two games will decide who's going to the next round; the other two series could be decided tonight if the Cards or Yanks win.
