The Fish have 77 games scheduled for the rest of the season. They are 5 games behind the Wild Card leader (Cincinatti), and 9 games back of the NL East leading Washington Nationals. The Marlins have 13 games (6 at home, 7 away) left with those Nationals within the 56 games scheduled from now until the final matchup with them this year on September 9, starting with a 4-bagger tonight at Marlins Park. The Fish are one of four NL teams that have a winning record against the Nats so far this season - though just barely, at 3-2. Those 3 wins also happened at Marlins Park, from May 28-30. After the last Nats-Fish game on September 9, the Fish play 18 of the last 21 games of 2012 against the other 3 teams in the NL East. The Reds are the last non-NL East team the Marlins play this year.

Welcome to the Second Half

Yesterday's roller-coaster went the Marlins way. After Gaby homered to help the Fish win, he is sent down to make room for new Marlin Carlos Lee. Quotes like "He's still a dangerous hitter" and "I can still do a lot of things in the game" shows that Lee hasn't been living up to his hopes lately. Maybe he'll regress to the mean.

Last night's roller-coaster ride of a game may have been disheartening, but remember there's still a whole half of a season yet to get through.

I'm back from a 3-week trip that took me away from the Marlins for awhile. That should be no excuse, as Marlins fans can keep track anywhere, even in cricket-loving Austrailia.

The pre-posts I set up to post daily during the trip weren't totally horrible, with, it seems, just one completely-screwed-up-date-and-schedule post and a few confused assertions.

UPDATE: Ozzie gets suspended for 5 days. Some angry exiles are shouting for Guillen's removal. They're not only angry at his admiring Fidel for being able to stay in power for the last 50 years, but they're also angry at Ozzie for reminding them and the world of the other implied meaning of his statement - that the Cuban exiles have failed at getting rid of Fidel for the last 50 years.

The Ballpark is kind of impressive.

The best thing about the park is how the concourse opens out to the field, so that it's easier not to miss some action while waiting for grub.

The next best thing is the many condiment bars - sneak in 2 pieces of bread and a can of sardines and you can pile on the flavor.

Half The Fun Is Getting There

The article in today's Herald pertaining to the parking situation at the new ballpark during last night's game was reposted in toto by the other two local fishwraps, in all probability because those papers' reporters couldn't get their cars through all the traffic.

The article discussed how, in the stadium's first game with prepaid parking, people who didn't prepay had to scramble to get spots anywhere they could find them - some for as long as an hour-and-a half.

I had it better. I went to the game, and I actually had prepaid parking, and at 6:30 PM it took only 25 minutes to go the three blocks from southbound 17th Avenue into the entrance of the south garages, which is where we were directed to. No left turn lights, cars backed up into the blocked intersections, cars stuck behind the locals' cars parked along the sides of the street, one possible cop on the corner waving drivers in to drive through the turn lanes, and then getting into the garage and discovering that the parking spaces are all sized for Fiats and Smart cars.

Yeah, it was great. It was so great we actually somehow made it into the building. I'll post some pictures of it later.

Meanwhile, if you got tickets for the Yankees series, better start heading over there now.
