Fish 'n Friars

With all the trades and rumors of trades going on, it would be nice maybe for a while to go back to the normal everyday type of daily Marlins goofiness, sort of like LoMo's breastfeeding tweets.

The Padres are in town for the weekend. Carlos Zambrano and Kip Wells are to fling.

Time Out

Today was the Marlins' next-to-last non-travel day-off for the year. As they ponder the next 64 games without Mr. Popularity, other games were played...

Afternoon Finale

Who's playing third? (Abbott: "No, who's on first!"). The Fish won after the last big trade; maybe it's a new strategy. Nolasco and Hanson pitch.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

New Trade Wednesday

Two more crapping veterans are hitting the road. Hanley and Randy Choate go to the Dodgers for pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and Scott McGough. Ramirez fittingly ended last night's loss by striking out looking. Ramirez and Randy will just barely get settled before they have to come back; the Dodgers' first game against the Fish this year will be in Miami August 9.

Post-Trade Tuesday

As the Angels were scouting Josh last night, who knows who'll show up (or disappear) for tonight's game? Mark Buehrle and Tim Hudson start.

The front office trades Omar and Anibal to Detroit for Jacob Turner, Rob Brantley, Brian Flynn and a future trade of draft picks. The Fish also snap their 5-game losing streak.

Stop The Slide,...Now

The Fish are now 8 games back in the WC. The Marlins have not only been aimless at manufacturing runs for themselves, but yesterday they proved they could produce historic amounts of runs for the opposition. It's sweep-avoidance Sunday. Anibal starts for the Fish, Jeff Karstens for the Bucs.

Stop The Slide

The Fish are 7.5 games back in the WC. Last night it was Resop; tonight A.J. Burnett gets to pitch against what used to be his old team. Zambrano's up for the Marlins.

Ozzie's Back in Chicago

Guillen prepares for a warm homecoming. The Marlins have 30 more games this year against non-NL-East opponents, starting tonight in Chicago. They are 3-0 against the Cubs so far this year. But the Cubs have 12 of their last 16, and 5 of their last 6. Anibal against Travis Wood tonight.

Wack Sat.

The team is one game farther back than yesterday. But that doesn't matter when tonight you can see not only at least one player with a newly-shaved head, two old players doing a not-so-instant replay, and some Kulture Shock after the game, but you'll be the first to know who the Marlins new 'pool boy' will be. How can you possibly miss that?

And, for those of you interested, a game will be played. Buehrle and Gio be flinging.

Coming Up

The Fish have 77 games scheduled for the rest of the season. They are 5 games behind the Wild Card leader (Cincinatti), and 9 games back of the NL East leading Washington Nationals. The Marlins have 13 games (6 at home, 7 away) left with those Nationals within the 56 games scheduled from now until the final matchup with them this year on September 9, starting with a 4-bagger tonight at Marlins Park. The Fish are one of four NL teams that have a winning record against the Nats so far this season - though just barely, at 3-2. Those 3 wins also happened at Marlins Park, from May 28-30. After the last Nats-Fish game on September 9, the Fish play 18 of the last 21 games of 2012 against the other 3 teams in the NL East. The Reds are the last non-NL East team the Marlins play this year.

Time to put their historically bad first half behind them (if not, then Edwin is still out there). Josh and Jordan start tonight.

Much-Needed Break

As Heath blows another one and Hanley hurts himself, Samson pontificates on the state of the Fish.

Hot Rubber Game

Stanton is having surgery and missing the All-Star game and about a month of playing time. The forecast today is for a little less heat but a coin flip's chance of rain. Anibal Sanchez and Joe Kelly are to start today.

Wheww!

Another horribly hot day is forecast for today's 4:10 PM start in St. Louis. Giancarlo says he can play today, and Justin continues to surprise. After last night's loss the Cards will start Kyle Lohse, while the Marlins cross their fingers and sent out Carlos Zambrano.

Sweep Need

The Fish go into the All-Star break with 3 games at St. Louis. The Marlins All-Star may not make it to the big show. Even after the June swoon, the Fish still can go to the break at over .500 if they sweep. Ricky Nolasco and Jake Westbrook toss it today.

Welcome to the Second Half

Yesterday's roller-coaster went the Marlins way. After Gaby homered to help the Fish win, he is sent down to make room for new Marlin Carlos Lee. Quotes like "He's still a dangerous hitter" and "I can still do a lot of things in the game" shows that Lee hasn't been living up to his hopes lately. Maybe he'll regress to the mean.

Carlos should start in this afternoon's game. Marlins going for a split in the series. Mark Buehrle and Michael Fiers start.

Shake It Off

Last night's roller-coaster ride of a game may have been disheartening, but remember there's still a whole half of a season yet to get through.

The last game of the first half of the season is today, a 4:10 ET start at Miller Park. Both teams are at 38-42 at this point in the season. Miami has a chance today with Josh on the mound against Randy Wolf. Some rain may fall on the fans as the heat forces the dome open.

Game Two With Brew Crew

Anibal Sanchez and Marco Estrada start this afternoon. D-Train retires.

MMMMMMMMM

The Fish finally do battle with the other NL team with the big 'M' on their caps. (There's one NL team the Marlins still haven't played against this year, and they won't see the Dodgers until August.) Miami has won its last 4 games, but the other streaks go the other way. The Marlins have lost their last 4 road games, and have lost their last 8 against Milwaukee. Zambrano and Greinke are to start.

Sunday on a Roll

As the Phillies start to disassemble themselves, the Marlins aim for a sweep. Ricky Nolasco and Joe Blanton toe the rubber today.
