Padres Freak, Make Another Trade to Stop Marlins

As Florida continues its winning ways at Petco Park, San Diego grabs Ryan Ludwick from the Cards.

Ricky Nolasco and Kevin Correia start tonight.

VICTORY: Dan becoms the Marlins' home-run leader as the Fish win 6-3.

San Diego Again?

The Marlins start their third series this year against the Padres, this time in Petco - and again the Fish have to deal with another surging team. Volstad and Le Blanc start. New Padre Miguel Tejada will bat fourth.

Bye Bye Jorge

The rumors pan out as the Marlins send Cantu (and CASH!?!) to the Rangers for AA pitcher Evan Reed and mending AA pitcher Omar Poveda.

Afternoon Giantism

Fish need a win today to tie the series. Anibal against Bumgarner on the mound. The supercomputer likes the Giants.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

Diddy With the Fish

Opening act for the DiddyDirtyMoney show tonight will be a ball game between the Marlins and Braves. Anibal and Kris Medlen will start, and the AccuScore super-predicting computer is scratching its electronic head over this one.

Here, though, is a scary trend: "Atlanta is 21-10 in the second game of a series this year. The Braves are 10-3 in that situation when coming off a loss. Florida is 13-18 in the second game of a series, 5-9 after a win."

Dan will be trying to become Mr. Number Two on the Marlins All-Time home run list.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

BEHIND_THE_8-BALL: Bullpen, Cantu collapse in 8th; Fish lose 10-5.

Cracked Stat Rpt.: Speed It Up!

Last night's game officially lasted 3 hours 40 minutes, and the Marlins beat the Braves. So far this year that has been a bit unusual for both Florida and Atlanta.

The 2010 Fish have up to now done their best in games of shorter duration. They have a 21-10 record in games lasting less than 2 hours 45 minutes. Between 2:45 and 2:59 they have a 14-19 record. And from 3 hours up their record is 13-19 (including extra inning games, where they are 1-5).

This year's Braves, on the other hand, are now 10-14 in games under 2:45, 22-12 in games from 2:45 to 2:59, and 24-14 in games 3 hours and over (including a 4-4 record in extra inning games).

As in many things, though, extremes are rarely good - the Marlins have lost the three shortest games they've played in this year, while the Braves have lost 4 of their 5 longest games of the year (which included last night's).

Make or Break?

This guy says, "Crucial is not too strong of a word to describe" this upcoming Braves series for the Fish. Alex Gonzalez retuns, and Alex Sanabia and Derek Lowe start.

DONNIE-BEATS-BONNIE: The Fish fight off the latent effects of Trop. Storm Bonnie, and Murphy puts out that luck o' the Irish to win the game for the 2nd time this week.

To The Rescue

The Marlins have lost their last 3 Super Saturday games. The Nats have lost their last 5 Saturday away games, including one here in Miami Gardens on May 1.

GOOD: Marlins win 2-0.

Welcome Back Warriors

The Marlins finally return to the mediocre confines of Some Life Stadium after an epic journey that spanned across five time zones and lasted what seems like a year and a half.

Tonight the Fish face the Nats. Nolasco starts against some kid named Strasburg. Edwin's flipping Dan and Jorge around in the batting order.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

ARGH: Fish lose their 4th straight Miami game, 4-0.

FUDGE: Dodgers win 7-3.

Celebrations

Congrats to Gaby for winning the NL Rookie of the Month award and to Josh for being voted the NL Pitcher of the Month.

Luck Happens

The Marlins at the moment are the most 'unlucky' team in the NL. Their win-loss record is now 4 games under their Pythagorean win-loss record (which supposedly is an indicator of how lucky or unlucky a team has been), a number which is now the lowest in the NL. The next 'unluckiest' teams are San Fran and St. Loo, who now are both 3 games under their Pw-l.

The Fish are now the only NL team that have scored more runs (384) than they've allowed (360) but still have a losing record (39-43).

This year both the Marlins and Dodgers have scored 24 more runs than they have allowed, but the Dodgers are 8 games over .500 while the Marlins are 4 games under .500.

In their last 17 games the Marlins have a 8-9 win-loss record but still have scored more runs than they've allowed (83-79).
