Rookie Shakedown Tonight

Craig Stammen and Sean West start.

The Nats have lost their last three June 30th games, including last year's game with the Marlins. The Fish have won 3 of their last 4 June 30th games (losing in 2007).

BOOM: And God sendeth forth the deluge after the Marlins taketh the lead. And thus did the game endeth.

Nat-Slapping

The Marlins, once proud masters over Tampa Bay and now sent wimpering home by them the last couple of years, are primed to proceed to pounce on our latest whipping-boys, the Washington Nationals. The Fish so far have done beat them Nats seven games in a row, thank you kindly, and are expecting a little old-fashioned morale-boosting tonight.

But they'll be facing fo-Fish Scott Olsen, fresh off the DL. Nah, don't worry - Nolasco will take care of their butts. (Yahoo)

And now the daily dose of history - The Marlins have won 3 of their last 4 June 29th games, while their opponent tonight has gone 2-2 in their last 4 on June 29.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

UPDATE: Rain has hit the stadium area and more may be coming.

RESULT: What else? Fish win 4-2.

SWEEP???

David Price, who just had his worst outing of the season, and Andrew Miller, who just had his best outing of the season, start today.

The Marlins and Rays have both lost 3 of their last 4 June 28th games (actually the Marlins lost 4 of their last 5, or 9 of their last 11, but who's counting?). The two teams played each other twice on June 28, in 2002 and 2006, and they were both Devil Rays wins.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

CLEANED-OUT: Fish lose 5-2.

Game 2 Under the Dome

Tonight marks the return to the Rays of Scott Kazmir (whose name brings a groan of regret from Mets fans everywhere). Chris Volstad will start for the fabulous Fish.

Tonight's starting time is at 7:08, compared with last night's starting time of 7:38. I must have missed something - what's with the 8's? A quick look at Google gave me no reason why there's an 8 minute rule on Rays' games. I almost thought they were sponsered by BrandsMart, but I don't think there's a BrandsMart over there.

Pat Benatar's doing a show after the game tonight.

The Rays and Marlins both won last year on June 27, and lost the year before on June 27. They've played each other twice on June 27, in 2004 and 2006, and the Marlins won both times.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

DOUBLE-FOO: Fish lose 3-2 - Phillies gain a game on the NL East.

Florida Frolics

The Fish go to the Trop to play the Rays. James Shields and Josh Johnson start.

The Rays and Marlins have played each other 4 times on June 26's, the Marlins winning in 2005 and 2006, and the Rays winning in 2004 and 2008. (In 2007 they both lost on June 26).

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

STEAM-CLEANING: Fish win 11-3.

Throw Another Arm on the Fire

Eric Polsky continues to report on the systematic destruction of the Marlins bullpen. Here's a pertinent quote:

"(W)hatever success Lindstrom was having prior to this past weekend, it is mind-boggling that the Marlins would use him in four consecutive games this week. This would be especially stupefying if the Marlins were aware of Lindstrom's discomfort in his arm, and knowing the Marlins were aware that Lindstrom is just two months removed from a rotator cuff injury."

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Game Two

Jason Berken and Ricky Nolasco start.

The Marlins lost their last two June 24th games. The O's won their last (and two of their last three) June 24th games.

I'm Back

I have returned from a mini-vacation, which I tried to explain on Thursday but the post for some reason didn't post at that time. The main news since Thursday concerns the bullpen, as Renyel returns, Kiko deflates, and Tim Wood is recalled.

Only One New York Team

Those Fish fans tiring of Yankee fans by now could remind them that the Yankees are really the Baltimore Orioles and aren't a legitimate home-grown New York team; but then why bother, as they're Yankee fans and they wouldn't listen any way.

C.C. Sabathia and Chris Volstad were the projected starters for today's game, but since I'm writing this last Thursday that may have changed by now.

The Marlins won last year after losing their previous two June 21st games. The Yankees lost their last two June 21st games, after winning the previous two.

Saturday with the Bombers

I'm still on a hiatus, so I don't know if there has been a rain-out or whatever. All I know is as of Thursday, Former-Fish A.J. Burnett and Now-Fish Josh Johnson are supposed to start.

And it's Super Saturday, so there'll be fireworks and Tito Nieves, if the best-laid plans of mice and men pan out.

The Marlins lost last year after winning two June 20th games in a row. The Yankees have lost their last two, and four of their last five, June 20th games.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

House of Confusion

The Marlins return home surrounded by Yankee fans, as usual. A local radio station started doing Yankees broadcasts on weekends last year - this year they're broadcasting the whole schedule (Yankee fans do have clout). Hell, even Loria was (is?) a Yankee fan. Expect big crowds at the ballpark. Pettitte and West are the supposed starters.

The Fish won their last two, and five of their last six, June 19th games. The Yankees won their last June 19th game, and four of their last six.

Away

(EDIT: For some reason this didn't post on Thursday. Oh well, here it is) I'm off on one of my Internet-less vacations. It should be just until Monday. Check for the latest news in the links bar over wherever your browser puts it. Meanwhile I'll set up posts ahead of time to put up the non-important stat that I've been keeping track of every day.

Last game of the Red Sox series is projected to have Nolasco and Lester as the starters.

The Marlins and the Red Sox have the exact same win-loss record for the past 4 June 18's.

Rainy Days and Sundays

Today's 5:05 PM start should put us square in the middle of some thunderstorm or two - expect delays.

Ricky proved he's too good for AAA; he returns today to show he's still good enough for the majors. Tim Lincecum, who has never faced the Marlins before, starts for the Giants.

Both teams have won their last 2 June 7th games. The Fish beat San Fran June 7, 2006, their only previous June 7 matchup.

(Yahoo)(ESPN)(CBSSports)(MLB)(FOX)(CNNSI)

FOOEY: Once Tim got off the mound the Marlins had a chance, but it wasn't enough - Giants win 3-2.

Super Soaker Saturday

Thunderstorms abound in the area as I write this. Even if the 6:10 start is delayed by rain, it still won't be on TV. Take a pancho and go - Phil Vassar and 15,000 rattle-drums will be there. Andrew Miller and Jonathan Sanchez are the starters.

On June 6's, the Fish have lost 3 of their last 4, and the Giants have won 3 of their last 4 (including a win against the Marlins in 2006.
